Hip Hinge
trunk line (hip → shoulder) vs horizontal at the bottom of the hinge.
Why this matters
The hip hinge is the foundation of deadlifting, picking up loads, and sprint posture. The screen checks whether the athlete folds at the hips with a neutral spine, rather than rounding the lower back.
What good looks like
The torso approaches horizontal driven by hip flexion, with a long flat back and the shins near-vertical.
Common faults
- Stays upright — limited hip flexion or hamstring length.
- Lumbar rounding substitutes for hip motion (watch the spine, not just the angle).
Coaching cues
- "Push the hips back, hinge — don't squat."
