Squat Depth (Knee Flexion)
included hip–knee–ankle angle at the bottom of the squat.
Why this matters
Squat depth reflects the combined mobility of the ankle, knee, and hip plus the control to load them. Limited depth usually traces to a single restricted joint rather than the knee itself.
What good looks like
Hips sink to at least parallel with the spine neutral, heels down, knees tracking over the feet.
Common faults
- Can't reach parallel — screen ankle dorsiflexion and hip flexion.
- Heels rise or trunk pitches forward — often ankle-driven.
Coaching cues
- Test with a small heel raise: if depth improves, the ankle is the limiter.
