Standing Hip Flexion
thigh (hip → knee) vs vertical with the knee actively lifted.
Why this matters
Active standing hip flexion reflects hip-flexor strength and the freedom of the posterior chain to allow the lift. It underpins sprint knee-drive, stair climbing, and high-knee actions.
What good looks like
The athlete actively lifts the thigh to at least horizontal under control, without leaning back or hiking the pelvis.
Common faults
- Thigh stays below horizontal — weak hip flexors or tight hamstrings/glutes.
- Trunk leans back to gain apparent range.
Coaching cues
- Keep the standing leg tall; lift actively (no momentum).
